Design Experience
We set up a bespoke website using WooCommerce, a well-known e-commerce platform, customised specifically for Wilma Gallery’s needs. The site was modified to allow artists to display their work beautifully while offering a seamless shopping experience for buyers. Special features, such as currency-specific pricing and IP detection, were integrated to enhance the user experience across different regions.
Bringing Art to Life
The Wilma Gallery Project Journey
To meet the client's requirement of catering to sales across the USA, UK, and Europe, we needed a solution that worked seamlessly in these regions. We conducted thorough research to identify best practices and technologies for multi-regional e-commerce, ensuring currency conversion, payment gateways, and shipping options were optimised for each location. This research helped us choose the most effective tools and methods to deliver a website that provided a consistent experience for international customers
We created rough wireframes to illustrate the website’s functionality and structure. These wireframes served as visual guides to present to the client, showing how users would navigate through the site. By focusing on user flow, we ensured that the layout would be intuitive, making it easy for visitors to browse and purchase artwork.
While the logo was provided by an external agency, OCM had creative freedom to design the rest of the site. Following the brief, we focused on a clean, minimalistic design that allowed the artwork to take center stage. The visuals were crafted to enhance the browsing experience without distracting from the artists’ work, using subtle typography and a refined colour palette.
To save on costs, we utilised the WooCommerce platform, customising it to meet the specific needs of Wilma Gallery. The site was adapted to include features such as currency-specific pricing based on user location and a robust content management system for easy updates. This approach ensured a flexible, scalable solution that could grow with the business.
The website underwent comprehensive testing, covering everything from the admin panel to user-facing features. We tested all functionalities, including product browsing, checkout processes, and payment systems, to ensure a seamless experience for both administrators managing the site and customers purchasing artwork.
Following the launch, we monitored the website for several months, addressing any issues that arose. Post-launch adjustments were made to accommodate new requirements and feedback, ensuring the site continued to meet the evolving needs of the gallery and its users.
A Rewarding Collaboration with Wilma Gallery
Working with Willy and Emma on the Wilma Gallery project was a pleasure. The process was lengthy, but we loved every step, from brainstorming ideas to refining the final touches. Bringing the gallery’s vision to life was rewarding, and collaborating with such a passionate team made it all the more enjoyable. The end result is a website that beautifully showcases the art and provides a seamless user experience.
